Why we show up in Harrisburg

Opticianry in Pennsylvania is shaped by decisions made in committee rooms and on the House floor. The OAP Legislative Committee is how our community speaks up, together, in one voice to protect the work we love.

What's happening now

HB 2386, the Optician Certification and Consumer Vision Protection Act, has been introduced in the Pennsylvania House and referred to the House Professional Licensure Committee. OAP continues to work with legislators, stakeholders, and industry partners to advance the bill, educate policymakers, and build support for establishing a clear certification framework for opticians in Pennsylvania.

Given the scope of proposed changes to the original bill language, there is a strong likelihood that the legislation will be reintroduced under a new bill number. OAP will continue to provide updates as the process moves forward.
